Christine D’Alessandro, Atlantic County ESP of the Year for 2018

The Atlantic County Council of Education Association would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Christine D’Alessandro, a Paraprofessional from Brigantine Elementary School, on being selected as the Atlantic County ESP of the Year for 2018! She has been a part of the Brigantine School District for 17 years.

Christine is known for her hard work and dedication. Using her background as a professional dancer, she teaches students multi-cultural dances for the districts Art Night. At the Lip Sync Battle benefit for St.Baldrick’s, she helps teachers and students develop skits. She also makes sure that any special education students that want to participate have a group to be part of, and any other assistance they may need to succeed. At this event, the students get to enjoy seeing many of their educators play the part of characters and celebrities that they know. Some acts have included seeing the gym teacher as Eminem, their English teacher as Lady Gaga and their principal as Shrek. She has also volunteered for the Stokes Auction, breakfast with Santa, Field of Dreams, Charity Bike Scavenger Hunt, and their monthly charity runs/walks.

Her union involvement consists of being on the Negotiations Committee, where she is credited with having the ability to listen and be considerate of all parties involved. She is also known for being able to communicate the needs of all union members effectively. These characteristics have helped lead to a successful negotiations process.

Her advice to a person lucky enough to be starting out as a Paraprofessional is, “I would first say that you will probably go home exhausted – some days physically, some days mentally and some days both. Start every day with a smile. It might fade a bit by 3:30, but bring it again tomorrow. Laugh, get involved, and try to emotionally leave your job at the end of the day. (This can be a struggle for me.) You will get to know some pretty amazing kids!”

Christine exemplifies many wonderful values that make her an excellent choice for county ESP of the Year. We are proud to have her as a member of the Atlantic County Council of Education Association and look forward to having her represent us at the ESP Conference Dinner this February.”
